Xiao Zhi was born on 28th May 1985 and played as a forward. From 2017 to 2019, he represented the Chinese national team in 17 official matches, scoring 3 goals.

On 7th June 2017, at the friendly match between China and the Philippines, the 32-year-old Xiao Zhi made his debut for the national team. He wore the number 22 jersey and started the game. In the 25th minute, he headed in a cross from Yin Hongbo to score the second goal for the Chinese team. This was his first international goal.

On 5th September 2017, in the FIFA World Cup qualification match against Qatar, Xiao Zhi scored in the 74th minute to equalize the score. In the end, the Chinese team won 2-1 in a comeback victory.

On 20th January 2019, in the Round of 16 match of the AFC Asian Cup, Xiao Zhi came off the bench and scored with a follow-up shot in the 67th minute to equalize the score for the Chinese team. He helped the Chinese team come from behind to win 2-1 against Thailand and advance to the quarter-finals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
